South Edgewood

There is a short block of businesses on S. Edgewood on the east side of Rite Aid and behind Pike Park. There used to be a Fire Station in this block. The station was replaced by the Uncommon Market a health food co-operative which was there from 1976 to 2003.

The Uncommon Market was credited for major achievements in the community, including: Launching the County's first recycling program & Initiating the first long-lasting farmer's market. library

Columbia Pike — High Serra Pools - entrance and sign in back

Columbia Pike — Scaffolding for the Ski Chalet's sign is still on the building

High Serra Pools is now on the corner of Columbia Pike and Edgewood. From 1969 - 2011 it was the Ski Chalet. And before that Norton's Cafe. The scaffolding for the Ski Chalet's sign is still on the corner of the building. Recently there was a fire in this building and you can see the blue covering on the roof that is there to protect the interior. This corner and street have a long history.

Long before the Ski Chalet there was the Columbia Quick Lunch a Restaurant which was opened by Andrew Norton in 1924 . It later became Norton's Cate after World War ll and was operated by Norton's son Everett and his brother-inlaw, it was a popular gathering place for almost 50 years. read more - library

Historic Buildings

The buildings on the Pike between S. Edgewood and S. Cleveland are across the road from the Fillmore Center .

Two buildings within this block are designated as historic buildings
2624 - Arlington Animal Hospital which opened in 1938. 2628 - Swank Custom Tailoring opened in April 2012 (used to be Birds N Things)
